David Otis Edwards is an experienced courtroom litigator, with experience in estate planning and probate, VA benefits, business and nonprofit organizations, tax issues, and civil appeals, including representing clients before the Illinois Supreme Court.
He graduated with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992 with a B.S. in Finance and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1995. (Read more about Dave’s education HERE.)
During law school, he achieved induction into the Order of the Coif – an educational honor society – and served as Associate Editor for the University of Illinois Law Review.
As a practicing attorney, David has been admitted to the Northern, Central and Southern U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
He is a member of the Sangamon County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association, with special tenure on the Trust and Estates Section Council from 2004-2005. Other memberships include the Sangamon Valley Estate Planning Council, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, the Sunbridge Legacy Builders Network, the National Association of Estate Planning Attorneys, and the Academy of VA Pension Planners.
Throughout his career, David has actively balanced his professional pursuits with civic involvement, including service on the Rutledge Youth Foundation’s Board of Directors, the Youth Philanthropists Steering Committee for the Sangamon County Community Foundation, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County, the Advisory Council of Brother James Court, the Board of Directors for the Illinois Baptist State Association, and the leadership of Delta Church.
In 2006, he was a recipient of the Springfield Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, he was named as a rising star by Super Lawyer magazine, an award given to the top 5% of Illinois attorneys under the age of 40.
David resides in Springfield with his wife, Michelle, who works as a nurse and is also a certified elementary school teacher. He has one daughter, Bailey, and a son, Cole. (Read more about his family HERE.)
