If you’re in the Springfield area and you or someone you love is navigating the questions that come with getting older — what happens to your home, who makes decisions if you can’t, how to protect what you’ve worked hard for — Wednesday, May 20, is a good day to get some answers in person.
Edwards Group will have a table at the Central Illinois Senior Celebration at the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds. We’d love to see you there.
What is the Central Illinois Senior Celebration?
The Central Illinois Senior Celebration is an annual event held each spring at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois. It’s designed for older adults and their families — a day to connect with local resources, learn about services available in the area, and just enjoy being part of a community that shows up for its seniors.
This year’s event is on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, starting at 9 a.m. at the Orr Building, 801 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL.
Where will Edwards Group be?
We’ll have a table at the event. Stop by to say hello, pick up some information, or just ask the question that’s been on your mind. There’s no pitch, no pressure — just a chance to have a real conversation with someone who understands where you are.
Our team works with families across Central Illinois — in Springfield, Decatur, and Quincy — and we see the same concerns come up again and again:
- “We don’t have anything in place yet, and we know we should.”
- “My mom was just diagnosed with dementia. What do we do now?”
- “We have a will, but it’s 20 years old and things have changed.”
- “We want to protect our home if one of us needs a nursing home someday.”
If any of those sound familiar, we’d be glad to talk.
Why estate planning matters more in your 60s and 70s
Most people put off estate planning because it feels complicated, or because it means thinking about things we’d rather not think about. We get it. But the families who come to us after a crisis — after a diagnosis, after a fall, after a death — almost always wish they’d started sooner.
Here’s what we see in practice: a complete, up-to-date estate plan doesn’t just protect your assets. It protects your relationships. It keeps your family out of court. It means the people you love don’t have to guess what you would have wanted.
For families in their 60s, a comprehensive plan typically includes a Will or Trust, Powers of Attorney for Healthcare and Finances, and a clear picture of where everything is and what should happen to it. For families navigating a diagnosis like dementia or Parkinson’s, or thinking about long-term care, there are additional tools — including irrevocable trusts — that can make a real difference in what options you have later.
The earlier you plan, the more options you have. That’s not a sales pitch. It’s just true.
One small step you can take before May 20
Before you stop by our table, think about the one question you most want answered. Write it down if it helps. It doesn’t need to be complicated — “Do I need a Trust or is a Will enough?” is a perfectly good question. So is “How do we protect the house?”
We’ll be ready to talk through it with you.
